What You Will Do

As a Database Developer in our Business Systems group, you'll dive into an exciting mix of cutting-edge technologies, with a current primary focus on Java and SQL supporting frontend web applications. We take pride in our modern and widely admired web applications that play a critical role in our global business. You'll be at the forefront of adding high-value features, ensuring quality, and expanding our audience reach.

  • Create customer-centric solutions, working closely with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical brilliance

  • Write clear, efficient, and modular code, making use of widely used libraries and techniques

  • Design, develop, and implement innovative programs that cater to customer needs

  • Collaborate with stakeholders and customers directly to deliver exceptional technical solutions

  • Contribute to collective decision-making on sprint priorities

  • Showcase your work and promote understanding within the team.

What Skills & Experience You Should Bring

  • Bachelor's degree or related qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field

  • Relevant experience may be acceptable in lieu of a degree

  • 4+ years of experience in database development 

  • Design and develop complex database schemas, optimizing for performance and maintainability in popular technologies such as SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL

  • Proficient in writing complex SQL queries, stored procedures, triggers, and functions to support application development and data analysis

  • Conduct performance tuning and optimization of SQL queries and database structures

  • Good communication skills, a desire to learn and be an excellent team player

  • Previous experience working in an Agile environment.

Our office in Christchurch, New Zealand (handily located on the Little River Link Cycleway), is the engineering center in our region and home to over 380 staff, offering free parking, an onsite fully featured gym, changing rooms & showers, table tennis, an active social club, and a great team environment where people love working with leading technology solutions.

Being located in the office provides opportunities to learn from and collaborate with many like-minded individuals from across the company. This team has a friendly culture and we provide flexible working arrangements for staff, so the option of working 1-2 days per week from home is possible.
