The Opportunity

Cochlear has an opportunity for 2x full-time Data Platform Engineer based in our Sydney, Macquarie office. In this role, the successful Data Platform Engineer will provide technical leadership and ownership of Cochlear’s SONAR data platform while driving innovation and efficiency across our global organisation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing the maintenance, optimisation, and operational health of the SONAR data platform.
  • Managing technical partnerships with supplier teams for platform support.
  • Developing and implementing data governance, operational, and security standards.
  • Evaluating and adopting emerging data technologies and automation opportunities.
  • Championing data literacy and self-service initiatives within the organisation.
  • Advocating for data security, risk management, and compliance.

About You. As we grow our operations, we are looking for people who share our passion for delivering quality hearing solutions to our customers. To add value to Cochlear in this role, you'll be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Certification in cloud computing from any provider.
  • Undergraduate degree in Data or Technology-related discipline.
  • Over 3 years of experience in enterprise environments, delivering multi-year projects with budgets exceeding $10M.
  • Experience creating and delivering technical training to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven ability to deliver, educate, and govern data products, including designing pipelines for batch and real-time capabilities.
  • Participation in innovation teams focused on optimisation, ideation, and blue-sky initiatives.
  • Hands-on experience with DevSecOps, CI/CD environments, and data platforms.
  • Proficiency with project and knowledge management tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Familiarity with release management processes, supplier management, and ITIL incident management.
  • Skilled in Python, SQL, cloud computing, and data/technology solution architecture.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across diverse teams, including cross-functional technologists and stakeholders.
  • Experience working in global environments with diverse cultures, skills, and mindsets.

Ideal:

  • Experience with Snowflake or Databricks.
  • Proficiency in AWS or Azure cloud platforms.
  • Familiarity with Informatica for data integration and management.
  • Knowledge of Tableau, including server management and dashboard development.
  • Understanding of data governance and data quality principles and practices.
  • Experience with data science, data wrangling, and working in sandboxes or labs.
  • Hands-on involvement in AI or machine learning projects within enterprise organisations (5000+ employees).
  • Skills in programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, and HTML.
  • Strong understanding of risk management, information security, and data privacy practices.
