About the role
We’re seeking a Database Engineer to be responsible for maintenance and support of the Transurban database environments. The environment must deliver capability and performance that is aligned to business expectation of service levels, compliance, and risk. The Database Engineer will also be required to work on various project deliveries as directed.
You’ll join an innovative and collaborative team to provide 2nd and 3rd level support for the service desk and desktop support teams, and as there are many critical and high availability systems in use at Transurban, the incumbent may be required to provide business hours support, and on-call 24x7 support as directed for these crucial systems.

Day-to-day, you will:
· Manage production systems availability to meet or exceed agreed SLAs.
· Manage test and development systems availability to agreed SLAs.
· Manage systems performance and capacity requirements ahead of expected business growth.
· Provide 2nd and 3rd level support for Infrastructure incidents. Manage logged incidents to meet SLA objectives.
· All Incidents are logged in the IT Service Desk system and are maintained with accurate, complete, and up-to-date information.
· Participate in DR activities as required, including documentation of DR Planning, Recovery, and potential Improvements for future exercises.
· Threat and risk analysis is performed against any relevant vulnerability.
· Focus on operational efficiency, by looking for development opportunities to improve processes and workflow in the environment
· Perform after hours work as required and perform 24x7 on-call duties on a rostered basis.
· On-call Incidents are logged in the IT Service Desk system.
· Major after-hours incidents are appropriately escalated.
This role will suit someone with a curious mind and transferrable skills and experiences, including:
· Extensive experience in installing, configuring, and maintaining high availability databases.
· Expert in server database administration and development functions, including performance tuning, DB backup and recovery, capacity planning, replication, high availability, monitoring using SQL Server Management.
· Understanding of Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and its application in the Oracle product suite
· Understanding of Data Warehousing and ILM principles
· Understanding of Web based technology and solutions
· ITIL foundation version 3
· Computer Science or related tertiary degree
· For Oracle and related databases and technologies, extensive experience in;
o Oracle RDBMS versions (12c onwards)
o Oracle backups (RMAN and scripted).
o Oracle Data Replication techniques - DataGuard, GoldenGate
o AIX and RHEL operation and working
o Oracle 12c/13c Grid Control (OEM)
o Oracle Database Certification
o SQL, PL/SQL and Shell scripting
· For SQL Server and related databases and technologies, extensive experience in;
o Microsoft SQL Server versions (2012 onwards)
o Database HA and DR technologies (Clustering, Mirroring, Log Shipping, AlwaysOn)
o Windows Server Administration, Active Directory, DNS, VMWare.
o MCTS, MCSE, MCSA or equivalent certification.
o SSRS, SSIS and SSAS development and support.
o SQL, TSQL and PowerShell scripting
· For Cloud based databases and related technologies, extensive experience in;
o AWS Architecture and operations
o AWS RDS, Redshift, PostgreSQL
o Data warehousing and ETL processes
o Big data and analytics tools
o Python, PHP and Shell scripting
