About us

The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services to fire in the built and landscape environments, as well as scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities. The QFD provides a multi-hazard emergency response, including road crash rescue, bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and provides a number of functions supporting community safety outcomes.


The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), as well as the broader department which work together to pre-empt, prevent, mitigate and manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies on Queensland communities and support our large volunteer membership across the state.


The QFD is an organisation that is focused on reframing the department’s relationship with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities, and organisations through the Path to Treaty, Closing the Gap and building our cultural capability.

Purpose of role

Enterprise IT Solutions and Services is responsible for the management and delivery of enterprise business systems across corporate and HR Systems and the Web, Data and Information Management units. The Web, Data and Information Management team contributes to the development and management of technological solutions and initiatives that help solve Information and Communication Technology (ICT) business problems and governance for ICT projects, programs and strategies.  


Reporting to the Director, you will work collaboratively as a Microsoft Power Platform subject matter expert across the Information Technology Directorate and QFD business areas.  This role will provide an opportunity to utilise your knowledge and experience to develop and maintain a productive, secure and compliant Power Platform Centre of Excellence (CoE) and fit for purpose governance framework and services to manage electronic artefacts in QFD and help power our digital transformation.

Highly desirable requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in information technology or equivalent would be beneficial.
  • Demonstrated experience in the following technologies Power Apps, Power Automate and how to integrate them with other (Microsoft) applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in setting up or supporting Power Platform support services, capabilities and governance processes and best practices.
  • Demonstrated experience establishing and growing collaborative relationships with staff from varying technical disciplines and with customers, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  • Microsoft Certification in Microsoft Power Platform and/or Dynamics 365.

Your key accountabilities

Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:

  • Support our Microsoft partner in the development of an environment strategy and configuration activities in collaboration with internal stakeholders to enable a productive, secure compliant Power Platform, and continue maintaining the CoE to meet strategic and business objectives.
  • Implement Power Platform solutions based on architectural best practices and frameworks to support service delivery and help power our digital transformation.
  • Provide technical expertise and guidance on basic aspects of the Power Platform offerings and assist with the design and implementation of available, cost-efficient solutions that meet operational capability and organisational needs. 
  • Develop, maintain, and implement key security, governance and compliance policies, including monitoring and audit processes for Power Platform solutions to protect sensitive data or unauthorised access, and enable the correct application of operational procedures. 
  • Create and maintain the Power Platform and services to help power our digital transformation, and ensure all technical solutions meet organisational standards, policies and strategic plans.
  • Assist with delivery of Power Platform architecture patterns and implementation based on customer requirements and educate the team on best practices and technical support to accelerate learning among peers.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships to support the development of an environment strategy in collaboration with internal stakeholders for the installation, upgrading, and control of systems for services and products on the Power Platform.
  • Support the release and deployment of new services over the software development lifecycle and ensure that the Power Platform is managed to agreed levels of service and data integrity, and is monitored and reviewed.
